My left thumb does look a little creepy, all alone on the page, holding what looks like a piece of white paper. Tonight I sat down with the firm intention to do something on paper as opposed to
with Paper, i.e. the app -- lest the habit of drawing on my iPad should make me forget what it's like to scratch at a piece of paper. So I took my favorite little Bic pen (the kind that holds 4 different colors), got out the black one and looked around me for something to sketch.
I remembered my student Hailey, who would sketch her right hand (she's a lefty) over and over in class, whenever she'd have a minute. What a great exercise. You don't have to travel far sometimes. Just look at your hand. Draw it. Fail. Repeat. Here was my first attempt tonight -- too dark, too stiff:
That doesn't mean I was happy with my second attempt (the large one, above), but it was getting late.
